Moving House Rubbish Removal Townsville

Moving house rubbish removal in Townsville: which skip size suits your home, a room-by-room clean-out list and how to time delivery around moving day.

Moving house rubbish removal in Townsville is easier to plan than to leave to the last weekend. Whether you’re leaving a rental at the end of a lease, packing up for a posting or selling the family home, the rubbish you find while packing has to go somewhere other than the removalist truck. A skip on the driveway for the week before you go gives you one place to put it. This guide covers which size to book, what to clear room by room and how to time the delivery around moving day.

Which skip size for your house

Every house is different, so treat this as a starting point. One cubic metre holds about one 6×4 trailer load.

SituationSuggested sizeGeneral waste (7-day)
Unit or small rental, light clear-out2m³$260 ex GST
Two or three bedroom home3m³ to 4m³$280 to $330 ex GST
Full house declutter or moving-out clean4m³$330 ex GST
Large family home with garage and shed6m³$380 ex GST
Whole-property clear-out8m³$420 ex GST

The 4m³ is our most popular size, and moving-out cleans are one of the jobs it’s designed for. If you’re stuck between two sizes, book the larger one. A second skip costs more than the step up. Our guide to what size skip bin you need has more detail, and you can compare every bin in 3D on the skip bin sizes and prices page.

Watch the weight on anything dense. The 4m³ has a 700 kg limit, which old furniture and boxes rarely reach, but a pile of pavers or a garden bed’s worth of soil can.

Green waste or general waste

Most moving clean-outs need a general waste skip. It takes mixed household rubbish on a 7-day hire, so broken furniture, boxes, old linen and garage junk can all go in together.

If you also need to tidy the yard before handover, consider a separate green waste skip. It’s cheaper ($110 to $230 ex GST depending on size) and comes with a 4-day hire, but it can only hold clean garden material such as lawn clippings, prunings and palm fronds. Household rubbish in a green skip turns the whole load into general waste. Garden waste can go into a general skip if you would rather book one bin and not sort anything.

Room-by-room clean-out list

Work through the house in this order and the skip fills from the bottom up with the heaviest, bulkiest items first.

Garage and shed

  • Broken outdoor furniture, old bikes and toys
  • Timber offcuts, old shelving and leftover building materials
  • Empty pots and garden gear you won’t take with you

Living areas

  • Worn-out lounges, coffee tables and bookcases that aren’t worth moving
  • Old rugs and broken lamps
  • Boxes of magazines, old cords and packaging

Bedrooms

  • Broken bed frames and flat-pack furniture that won’t survive another move
  • Old pillows, worn linen and clothes too damaged to donate
  • Mattresses can go in, but they attract a charge on top of the hire, so mention them when you book

Kitchen and laundry

  • Chipped crockery, old pans and broken small appliances
  • Pantry clear-out packaging
  • Old plastic tubs and storage containers

Yard

  • Garden waste, if you haven’t booked a separate green skip
  • Old shade sails, broken fencing panels and pallet furniture

Keep paint tins, chemicals, gas bottles, batteries and anything else on the banned list out of the bin. Our guide to what you can’t put in a skip bin in Townsville lists where each of those items should go instead.

Timing the skip delivery around moving day

A general waste skip comes with a 7-day hire, which is enough to plan around a move. A timeline that works for most households:

  1. Book the skip for about a week before moving day. That gives you the full hire period for the sorting and clearing that happens while you pack.
  2. Clear the garage, shed and spare rooms first. These hold the most rubbish and the least of what you’ll use before you go.
  3. Load the skip before the removalists arrive. The truck and the movers need clear access, and you don’t want to be loading rubbish around them.
  4. Leave space for the last day. Packing the kitchen and bathroom always turns up more. Keep some room in the bin.
  5. Have the skip collected before you hand back the keys. Call us when it’s full so the driveway is clear for your final inspection.

We deliver Monday to Saturday, 7 am to 5 pm, and same-day delivery is often available if your plans move. Fill to the rim only, because an overfilled bin can’t be legally transported.

Moving house rubbish removal Townsville: placing and booking

Pick a spot on the driveway that won’t block the removalist truck. A 4m³ skip is 3.0 m long and 1.8 m wide, so measure the space and allow room for our truck to reverse in. If the driveway is tight, mention it when you book and our smaller trucks can place the bin close to where you need it.

Payment is on delivery, by card with the driver or over the phone. We deliver across Townsville and the surrounding suburbs, out to Ingham and Ayr, with extra charges on those outlying runs.

Common questions

How long can I keep the skip bin at my property?

Our standard hire periods are tailored explicitly to the type of waste you are disposing of to keep your costs down. General mixed-waste skip bins come with a flexible 7-day hire period included in your flat rate, allowing you to clean out your garage or renovation site at your own pace. Dedicated green-waste skip bins feature a focused 4-day hire period, which is ideal for weekend garden clean-ups before organic vegetation begins to sit too long in the intense North Queensland tropical heat.

How do I pay for my skip bin?

Payment is required on delivery. Our drivers carry Square card facilities, so you can tap or swipe on the spot when your skip arrives. If it suits you better, we can also take payment over the phone — there is a range of options, but we usually take payment on delivery.

What suburbs across Townsville do you deliver skip bins to?

Green Ant Skips provides prompt, friendly delivery six days a week (Monday to Saturday) right across the entire Townsville region. This includes inner suburbs like North Ward, Hermit Park and South Townsville; high-density residential hubs like Kirwan, Aitkenvale, Annandale and Cranbrook; and the entire Northern Beaches growth corridor (Burdell, Bushland Beach, Deeragun, Jensen and Mount Low). We deliver from Ayr to Ingham, so we also route trucks out to extended regional districts including Kelso, Alligator Creek, Ingham, Ayr, Home Hill and Balgal Beach — extra charges apply on those outlying runs, so give us a call for a quick quote.

Can I put a mixture of garden green waste and general household junk in the same bin?

If you have a combination of green waste and general household junk, you must book a General Waste Skip Bin. Our highly discounted Green Waste rates are strictly reserved for 100% clean organic garden material (like tree branches, lawn clippings and palm fronds) because these loads are channelled directly into local organic sorting and recycling streams. Mixing general household plastics, furniture or building materials into a green skip invalidates the load and incurs standard general waste sorting fees.

Are there any items that cost extra to put in a skip bin?

Yes — mattresses attract an additional charge for each one, because they cannot go into general landfill with the rest of a mixed load and have to be separated and processed on their own. We are happy to take them, we just need to know they are going in. Let us know when you book, or mention it to the driver on delivery, and we will confirm the cost up front rather than surprising you on the invoice. If you have anything else unusual — a fridge, a large appliance, or a load that is mostly soil, brick or concrete — give us a call on 0439 413 125 and we will tell you exactly where you stand before the bin arrives.

What items are strictly prohibited from being placed in your skip bins?

To comply with Queensland environmental protection regulations and local landfill safety policies, we cannot accept hazardous materials. This includes asbestos, tyres, wet chemical paints, gas cylinders, liquid oils, batteries and biological waste. If you are unsure about a specific item on your property cleanup, please call us directly before loading it into your bin.
