Mini Skip Hire Townsville: The 2m³ Skip

Mini skip hire in Townsville: the 2m³ skip's dimensions, 400 kg weight limit, green and general prices ex GST, what fits and when to size up.

Mini skip hire in Townsville suits the jobs that are too big for the wheelie bin and too small to justify a full-size skip. Our mini skip is the 2m³, the smallest bin in the Green Ant Skips range. It holds about two 6×4 trailer loads, it starts at $110 ex GST for green waste, and it fits on driveways where a larger bin would be a squeeze. This guide covers its exact size, its weight limit, what you can fit in it and the point where a 3m³ or 4m³ becomes the cheaper choice.

Mini skip dimensions

The 2m³ is shaped differently from our larger bins. Those are straight-walled boxes. The mini skip is a tapered bin:

  • Length: 3.0 m
  • Width at the top opening: 1.5 m
  • Width at the floor: about 1.0 m
  • Height: 0.7 m

The sides slope in from the 1.5 m opening to the narrower floor, which keeps the footprint small. At 0.7 m high, the rim sits around knee to thigh height on most adults, so you can lift garden bags and boxes straight over the side. Every skip also has a walk-in door for bulky items you would rather not lift.

If you want to see it to scale, the skip bin sizes and prices page has a 3D model of each bin you can spin and compare against a person.

Mini skip hire Townsville prices and hire periods

The mini skip comes in two waste types, and the price and hire period depend on which one you book.

2m³ mini skipPriceHire period
Green waste$110 ex GST4 days
General waste$260 ex GST7 days

Green waste is cheaper because the load is recycled into mulch. That only works if the bin holds clean garden material: lawn clippings, prunings, branches and palm fronds. Soil, rocks, treated timber and household rubbish turn it into a general waste load. If your clean-up mixes the two, book a general waste skip. If it is purely garden, a green waste skip saves you $150 ex GST on the 2m³ alone.

What fits in a 2m³ mini skip

Two cubic metres is roughly two box-trailer loads. In practical terms, a mini skip handles jobs like these:

  • A garage or shed tidy-up: old boxes, broken outdoor furniture, offcuts and packaging
  • A single room clean-out, such as a spare bedroom or a kid’s room after they move out
  • A weekend of yard work: pruning back the hedges, clearing a garden bed or bagging up a pile of palm fronds
  • A small laundry or cupboard strip-out where the waste is mostly light timber and fittings

The weight limit on the 2m³ is 400 kg. Light, bulky waste like cardboard, green waste and timber rarely gets near it. Dense material does. Soil, sand, bricks, tiles and concrete can reach 400 kg while the bin still looks half empty, so a mini skip is the wrong tool for anything heavy. For a slab or a tiled floor, read our guide to the concrete and tiles skip, which is built for that weight.

Fill to the rim and no higher. An overfilled bin can’t be legally transported, so if the load is mounding above the sides, you need the next size up.

When to step up to a 3m³ or 4m³

The jump from a 2m³ to a 3m³ costs $20 ex GST on either waste type and gives you an extra trailer load plus 100 kg more weight allowance. Here is how the three smaller sizes compare:

SizeTrailer loadsWeight limitGreen waste (4-day)General waste (7-day)
2m³~2400 kg$110 ex GST$260 ex GST
3m³~3500 kg$130 ex GST$280 ex GST
4m³~4700 kg$150 ex GST$330 ex GST

Size up when:

  • You are guessing between two sizes. A second mini skip costs far more than the $20 ex GST step to a 3m³.
  • The job touches more than one room. A full house declutter or a moving-out clean usually needs the 4m³, our most popular size.
  • There is weight in the load. Old timber decking, a few pavers or a bathroom’s worth of tiles push a 2m³ toward its 400 kg limit quickly. The 4m³ takes 700 kg.

Placing a mini skip on a tight driveway

The mini skip’s 3 m by 1.5 m footprint is the reason many people choose it. It fits on narrow driveways, in front of a single garage, or beside a carport without blocking the house. Our smaller trucks can place the bin close to the job, so a few things help on delivery day:

  • Measure the spot. You need a clear patch at least 3 m long and 1.5 m wide, plus room for the truck to reverse in.
  • Clear overhead. Low branches, carport roofs and power lines over the drop spot make placement harder.
  • Tell us about access when you book. Steep driveways, side gates or a spot behind the house are all worth mentioning so the driver arrives knowing the plan.
  • Leave room to load. Put the bin where you can reach it with a wheelbarrow, and keep the walk-in door side clear if you plan to use it.

We deliver Monday to Saturday across Townsville and the surrounding suburbs, and same-day delivery is often available.

Common questions

How long can I keep the skip bin at my property?

Our standard hire periods are tailored explicitly to the type of waste you are disposing of to keep your costs down. General mixed-waste skip bins come with a flexible 7-day hire period included in your flat rate, allowing you to clean out your garage or renovation site at your own pace. Dedicated green-waste skip bins feature a focused 4-day hire period, which is ideal for weekend garden clean-ups before organic vegetation begins to sit too long in the intense North Queensland tropical heat.

How do I pay for my skip bin?

Payment is required on delivery. Our drivers carry Square card facilities, so you can tap or swipe on the spot when your skip arrives. If it suits you better, we can also take payment over the phone — there is a range of options, but we usually take payment on delivery.

What suburbs across Townsville do you deliver skip bins to?

Green Ant Skips provides prompt, friendly delivery six days a week (Monday to Saturday) right across the entire Townsville region. This includes inner suburbs like North Ward, Hermit Park and South Townsville; high-density residential hubs like Kirwan, Aitkenvale, Annandale and Cranbrook; and the entire Northern Beaches growth corridor (Burdell, Bushland Beach, Deeragun, Jensen and Mount Low). We deliver from Ayr to Ingham, so we also route trucks out to extended regional districts including Kelso, Alligator Creek, Ingham, Ayr, Home Hill and Balgal Beach — extra charges apply on those outlying runs, so give us a call for a quick quote.

Can I put a mixture of garden green waste and general household junk in the same bin?

If you have a combination of green waste and general household junk, you must book a General Waste Skip Bin. Our highly discounted Green Waste rates are strictly reserved for 100% clean organic garden material (like tree branches, lawn clippings and palm fronds) because these loads are channelled directly into local organic sorting and recycling streams. Mixing general household plastics, furniture or building materials into a green skip invalidates the load and incurs standard general waste sorting fees.

Are there any items that cost extra to put in a skip bin?

Yes — mattresses attract an additional charge for each one, because they cannot go into general landfill with the rest of a mixed load and have to be separated and processed on their own. We are happy to take them, we just need to know they are going in. Let us know when you book, or mention it to the driver on delivery, and we will confirm the cost up front rather than surprising you on the invoice. If you have anything else unusual — a fridge, a large appliance, or a load that is mostly soil, brick or concrete — give us a call on 0439 413 125 and we will tell you exactly where you stand before the bin arrives.

What items are strictly prohibited from being placed in your skip bins?

To comply with Queensland environmental protection regulations and local landfill safety policies, we cannot accept hazardous materials. This includes asbestos, tyres, wet chemical paints, gas cylinders, liquid oils, batteries and biological waste. If you are unsure about a specific item on your property cleanup, please call us directly before loading it into your bin.
